POETRY:
I HOPE FOR A NIGERIA - Umoh Etido
For my dear country, that which I was born to be part of, that which fate has bestowed upon me, that which I must call home, I can only hope...
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where ethnicity and religion will be no barrier to socializing.
In fact, I HOPE for a NIGERIA in which we abandon the titles Islam and Christianity, embrace love and worship God, because religion is the worst thing that has happened to Nigeria.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where the government's first, second, and third agendas are education, education, and education, because education goes beyond schooling and is the foundation of any nation.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where we will have leaders that have the welfare of their followers at heart, not rulers that pretend to care.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where an elected person, after an election, will speak to his or her people from the heart and not from an already prepared script like a broadcaster.
I Hope for a NIGERIA where godfatherism will hold no water and people will be chosen based on merit.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where figures in all sectors will be classified in NAIRA based on our currency and not dollars; it's really annoying, and personally, it pisses me off all the time.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where persons guilty of corruption, irrespective of their status, will, in due time, be tried in a court of law and, by an uninfluenced judgment, if found guilty, be sent to jail for a really long time.

I Hope for a NIGERIA where power is always available, the youth get creative, and unemployment is reduced to the barest minimum.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where our resources will be properly utilized and their outcomes used to develop our country and its citizens.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where democracy rules, not disguised plutocracy.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA where her citizens see things as they are and tackle them in diverse ways, but in unity.
I HOPE for a NIGERIA bonded in Love, Peace, and Unity. One that would uphold her honor and glory far above all other nations! Far above the birds of the sky! far to the very floor of God's feet.
I but HOPE for a Better NIGERIA, that GIANT that is worthy of its name,
I but HOPE for a brighter, better, and blossoming Nigeria.
I but Hope, yes, while I play may part.
I but HOPE. God bless my father's land; God bless NIGERIA!
